Life Can Change in an Instant: Reflecting on the DC Plane Crash
Iβve been following the heartbreaking reports about the American Airlines flight from Wichita to D.C. that tragically collided with a military jet, and my heart feels so heavy. Even though I didnβt personally know anyone on that flight, I canβt stop thinking about the families who lost their loved ones in an instantβthe ones who were waiting at the airport, expecting a safe landing, only to have their world shattered in the blink of an eye.
One particular story struck me: a husband who received a text from his wife just 20 minutes before landing, telling him sheβd be home soon. And then, in a moment none of us can truly prepare for, she was gone. Itβs terrifying to think about how fragile life is, how one second weβre making plans for the future, and the next, those plans cease to exist.
As someone whoβs been flying since childhood, Iβve always taken for granted the ability to take off and land safely. This tragedy serves as a sobering reminder that nothing in life is promised, and itβs pushed me to reflect on what truly mattersβcherishing our loved ones, letting go of grudges, and never waiting too long to say "I love you."
I also want to acknowledge that moments like this remind us to hold space for the grieving. If you or someone you know has been affected by this, please know that so many hearts across the country are mourning with you.
