Backyard Butchers Review: Is the 20 Ribeye’s for $39 Deal Too Good to Be True?

If you’ve been scrolling through Instagram or Facebook and stumbled upon an ad for Backyard Butchers, you might have seen their eye-catching deal: 20 ribeye’s for just $39. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, my best friend sent me the ad, and since curiosity got the best of me, I decided to check it out for myself—so you don’t have to.

Here’s my full, honest review of Backyard Butchers, from my experience at their pop-up shop to the quality of the meat and whether or not I’d recommend it.

Backyard Butchers operates through pop-up shops across different locations, usually set up in store parking lots (in my case, at a Tractor Supply Company). When I arrived, I saw a large 18-wheeler box truck with a small entrance tent set up on the side. There was a QR code to scan, which entered customers into a free ribeye’s for a year giveaway—a little sketchy, in my opinion.

(And The Upsell)

When I told the salesman I was there for the 20 ribeye’s for $39 deal, he immediately pivoted to selling me on bigger meat bundles. He showed me three different cases:

The deal they were running was “Buy One, Get One Free” on the meat cases, meaning if you bought a beef case, you could get another beef, chicken, or seafood case for free. But the catch? The starting price was nearly $400 before tax.

The salesman pushed hard for an upsell, emphasizing that the ribeye’s alone weren’t high-quality and that if I wanted good steak, I should really buy one of the cases. He even went as far as saying the sales reps only make money off tips, which I highly doubt (they likely earn commission).

I wasn’t willing to spend $400, and after some back and forth, the salesman dropped the price to $189 for one beef case, plus the 20 ribeye’s I originally wanted. With tax and an added tip, my total came out to $206.56.

Now, onto the most important part—was the meat worth the price?

The ribeye’s were extremely thin—not even an inch thick. Each box contained 10 ribeye’s per pack (totaling 20), but they were so small that I had to use five ribeye’s in one meal just to make a decent portion for my family.

While the beef case came with more steak options, the cuts didn’t feel premium. The overall quality wasn’t terrible, but I kept thinking about how I could have gotten better meat at Sam’s Club or Costco for the same price.

✔️ The experience was interesting (if you like checking out new things).
✔️ The customer service was decent.
✔️ You do get a large quantity of meat.

❌ The ribeye’s are paper-thin and not what you’d expect.
❌ The sales tactics were pushy and designed to get you to spend way more than expected.
❌ The total cost ($206.56) was not worth it for the meat quality.
❌ The “20 ribeye’s for $39” is bait to get you into an expensive upsell.
❌ You could get better-quality meat at Sam’s Club or Costco for the same price.

If you see their ads online and are tempted to try them, I’d strongly suggest skipping it and going to a wholesale club or grocery store instead. I’d rate my overall experience a 4.5/10.

If you’ve bought from them before, I’d love to hear your experience! Drop a comment below and let me know what you think about the quality of the meat and whether you’d purchase from them again.

At the end of the day, I regret my purchase and wouldn’t buy from them again. If you’re looking for high-quality steak or bulk meat deals, you’ll find better value at Costco, Sam’s Club, or even your local butcher shop.

Hope this review helps someone avoid wasting money on a marketing gimmick!

Are you kidding? If you are led into a box of their “premium” beef and it contains “steak burgers” make sure you cook all of them at the same time! That way you will only have to call the FD once! Amazing how little of the beef is USDA graded, the ‘wonderful’ 20 ribeyes for only $39.95 ($10 a lb!) seem to be something other than a tender ribeye. Lots of grizzle. If you have a four legged member of the family at least they won’t be wasted! How about just check the local BBB? Wish I had! I doubt anyone will see this since it seems to b run by…..
