ADHD and Glasses: The Ultimate Chaos Combo That Nobody Warned Me About

Listen, I said what I said—having ADHD and needing glasses is the devil’s work. And I stand by that. Because OMG, the way I lose things is absolutely ridiculous, but my glasses?

My glasses take the gold medal for most frequently lost item of the year—every year.

I started wearing glasses about five years ago, and since then, I swear I lose them at least 100 times a day. And no, I’m not exaggerating. The struggle is real.

Take this recent situation as Exhibit A: I was heading to the airport to pick up my cousin, and the moment I sat in the car, I realized—I wasn’t wearing my glasses.

And just like that, my life turned into an unplanned scavenger hunt. It took me 15 minutes of searching the house, retracing my steps, and questioning my very existence before I found them.

And this isn’t a one-time thing. This is an everyday thing. I’ll be on time for something, feeling proud of myself, and then—BAM—I’m set back 15 minutes because I have to hunt for my glasses, phone, or keys (sometimes all three).

At this point, I feel like I need to start adding “search time” into my schedule because it’s inevitable.

First of all, I don’t even wear them all the time. I hate wearing them while I’m on the computer, so I take them off.

But the second I need them for something important—like, I don’t know, driving?—they’re gone.

Vanished.

Teleported to another dimension.

And what makes it worse? ADHD.

Having ADHD means:

✔️ You forget where you put things within seconds.

✔️ You SWEAR you left something in a certain place, but it’s mysteriously NOT there.

✔️ You find things in places that make NO sense.

Like, how did my glasses end up in the refrigerator? Or in my shoe? I do not have the answers.

Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more ADHD diagnosis videos popping up, and people are making these quirky, relatable TikToks about what it’s like to have ADHD.

And while I totally get the humor (I laugh at them too), living with ADHD is not always fun.

Yes, ADHD can be a superpower in certain ways. We’re adaptable. We thrive under pressure. We’re creative thinkers.

But the daily struggle?

The forgetfulness?

The constant feeling of losing your mind?

It’s frustrating.

And exhausting.

Even if I had a tracker for my lost things, guess what? I’d lose the tracker too. That’s how deep this goes.

And this has been my whole life. As a kid, my grandma used to look at me, confused, like:
“How do you keep losing things like this? What is going on in your head?”

And my answer? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I wish I could explain it. I put my things in one spot, I turn around, and poof—they’re gone.

It genuinely feels like I’m losing my mind on a consistent basis, and that is not fun.

Because I know I’m not the only one. If you also struggle with losing your glasses, your phone, your keys (or your entire sense of reality) drop a comment and let me know I’m not alone in this battle.

And if you have actual tips that work (because clearly, my system is failing), please share them. I am all ears.

Until then, I’ll just keep wandering around my house, retracing my steps, and hoping for a miracle.
